Julie grew up in Portsmouth, Ohio and began baking in middle school home economics class. Cupcakes wouldn't come until much later, after she graduated from Shawnee State University and settled in the Central Ohio area.

 

The cupcake experiment began in earnest in 2012, with her attempts to perfect her mother's Key Lime cupcake recipe. More flavors followed quickly thereafter, and Julie began selling her creations to friends and family on Valentines Day, 2012. Just a few years later she was creating cupcakes for events at such diverse spaces as Venue 62 in Grove City, Confluence Park Boathouse, and even historic Thurber House in downtown Columbus.
